Celi Privacy Policy
Celi is a dining and travel companion for people who eat gluten-free. This policy explains what information Celi uses, why, and the choices you have. In short: Celi doesn't ask for your name or email, doesn't sell your data, doesn't show ads, and keeps your check-ins private.
Your location
If you allow it, Celi uses your location while you're using the app to find places near you and to tell you how far away they are. Those distances are worked out on your phone. Celi doesn't store your location on our servers or track where you go. When Celi researches places for you, it sends only the name of the area, like "San Ramon", not your exact position. When you type a place name, your phone may look it up with Apple's map service.
What you ask Celi
Messages you send in Celi chat go to our server and to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI model, so Celi can understand your request and research restaurants. We don't keep a history of your conversations on our servers: the conversation stays on your phone until you start over or close the app. Anthropic processes these requests under its commercial terms, which by default don't permit using them to train its models.
Please don't share sensitive personal details in chat that Celi doesn't need to find you a place to eat.
Your Celi account
The first time you check in, add a photo or write a review, Celi creates an anonymous account for you. It has no name, email or password. It lets you see your own check-ins and lets us attribute photos and reviews to the same person.
Check-ins
When you check in at a restaurant you can note how eating there went (for example, whether you felt fine) and add a private note. This can be health-related information, so we treat it carefully: your check-ins are visible only to you. Restaurants' pages may show anonymous totals, never individual check-ins.
Photos and reviews
Photos and reviews you add are public on the restaurant's page in Celi so others can benefit from them. They aren't shown with your name. We may remove photos or reviews that are off-topic or inappropriate. If you use the camera or photo library, Celi uploads only the photos you choose.
Restaurant research
When Celi researches restaurants or checks a restaurant's gluten-free practices, the results (such as what a restaurant says on its website) are saved to Celi's restaurant database so everyone can use them. They contain information about restaurants, not about you.
App usage
Celi creates a random identifier for your installation of the app. We use it to count requests, understand costs and prevent abuse. Usage records contain things like the type of request, when it happened and what it cost to run; they don't contain your messages or your location. Places you save are stored only on your phone.
Services we use
We use a few trusted providers to run Celi. They process data on our behalf:
- Supabase: our database and photo storage.
- Cloudflare: the server that connects the app to our database and AI services.
- Anthropic: the Claude AI model behind Celi chat and research.
- Apple: maps, directions and place lookups on your iPhone.
- Expo: delivers app updates.
Like most online services, these providers keep standard technical logs, such as IP addresses, for security and reliability.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your information.
- We don't show ads or use advertising trackers.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites.
Your choices
- You can turn off location, camera or photo access at any time in your iPhone's Settings. Celi still works; you can search by city instead.
- Deleting the app removes everything Celi stores on your phone, including saved places.
- You can ask us to delete the photos, reviews and check-ins tied to your account, or ask what we hold about you, by emailing hello@spicewoodlabs.com. Because Celi accounts are anonymous, tell us the restaurant and roughly when you posted, so we can find it.
California residents have rights under California law to know about, delete and correct personal information. You can use them by emailing us at the address above. We won't treat you differently for doing so.
Children
Celi isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has used Celi, contact us and we'll delete their information.
Safety note
Celi helps you find information, but restaurants change their practices and information can be wrong. Always confirm gluten-free handling with the restaurant before you eat.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date above. For significant changes we'll also let you know in the app.
